We are a boutique group of marketing and business professionals trained to solve marketing problems quickly and meaningfully. We are entrepreneurial in nature but approach opportunities with disciplined marketing strategy consultation, and when needed, efficient boutique agency execution.

Who do we work with?

Corporations, start-ups, financial services, public services, and member-driven organizations.  We specialize in the marketing & communications of ideas and service-based organizations, and preferably those with complex stakeholder groups. We don't market packs of gum, but ideas that influence the public good.  We take on the tough marketing problems:  if it were easy our clients wouldn't need us.

What type of business situations drive the need for a renewed marketing strategy?

Changing market and marketing conditions, new product opportunities, slower-than-expected growth, differentiation in highly competitive situations, conflicting membership direction and organizational change.

 


Job DescriptionMarketing Strategy Associate

Flexible engagement for marketing & communication professional

You are:


  • An all 'rounder marketing & communications professional - with roots in at least one of the 4 P's (Product, Price, Place & Promotions)

  • A marketing planner, researcher, account manager (client services), project manager, integrated campaign manager and copy writer (the more of these boxes that you check off, the better a fit you will be, and if you bring other experience to the table like media buying, analytics or social media management, even better)

  • Someone who works independently, but is committed to high ideals.  If you always think there's a better way to get a better result, you'll fit in.

  • A seasoned marketing & communications professional with between 3 - 10 years experience client & agency side (preferably a mix) with a stable track record of success 

  • Flexible:  stay-at-home parent?  Tired of the commute?  Looking for something different than the usual office day-in, day-out? Not interested in 9 - 5 hours, but not interested in working 70 hour weeks either?  Have another business you are growing on the side?  

  • Experienced in complex, regulated industries, preferably at the national (and bilingual campaign) level

  • Someone who thought there was too much ego involved during their agency days; someone who on client side thought things didn't move fast enough

  • Opinionated and know how persuade people of them

  • Demanding of high professional standards of yourself and those around you; independent & disciplined to never miss a deadline 

  • Comfortable with office technology and have a home office ready to go

  • Probably a book worm who reads too much, and has a love of long-format news & journalism - you might have an Bachelor of Arts, or even a Masters

  • Engaged with the world around you:  volunteering, politics, hobbies, interests, 'cause there's way more to life than just work


You are needed to:


  • Support a growing boutique marketing strategy & planning firm with deep roots in financial services, education and public services

  • Think about our clients and what they need, recommend it to them, and then make it happen

  • Lead marketing research, campaign planning, campaign management; listen & respond to client needs

  • Research and write creative briefs, prepare presentations and persuade clients of the right level of investment in their marketing program

  • Assemble & lead a team of integrated professionals and get the best from them for your client

  • Research and write copy - it’s not all of this role, but if you’re not comfortable picking up the pen to write, then this job is probably not for you

  • Delight clients with timely responses and on-time delivery of materials and support


You will work with:


  • A small, dedicated group of integrated professionals - strategy, digital, design, media specialists and more

  • An award winning and seasoned team who just thinks there's a better model with less B.S. in consulting and agency work

  • A roster of senior professionals who believe that one successful engagement begets another - true performance driven culture

  • People who think that 9 - 5 and being tied to an office is over and a waste of time - we work on site with clients, at home, in our cars, wherever it suits each of us to do our best work.  Some of us work at 3 in the morning 'cause we like it, others align with clients during prime business hours.  It's up to each of us to choose what works for each of us - and our clients

  • Leaders not managers.  If you want a someone to approve a day off, this role isn't for you

  • People who have fun doing our jobs - it is immensely satisfying to work with smart engaged people  


Hours, salary and other bits:


  • Hours are negotiable from 15 hours a week to 40

  • Hourly rate is dependent on experience and skills that are brought to the team

  • Compensation is scaled by the hour - the more you work the more you get paid (success begets success)

  • Most of The Marketing Strategy Group are based in Toronto, but most of our clients are not.  You could be anywhere - as long as you're smart, committed and plugged in you'll fit; we bond over talent, not face time in an office
